Case Study: Renovation, expansion and energy efficiency

A small cape cod style home on a slightly elevated lot steps from the Atlantic Ocean was ideally located but outdated for a family requiring 4 bedrooms and a better layout. DDG worked collaboratively with the homeowner to craft a thoughtful home renovation, resulting in a contextually appropriate home of traditional style. Among the many features which DDG integrated into this home is a geothermal heating/cooling system, as well as foam insulation and solar electric roof top panels, resulting in a home that is highly energy efficient. A whole house generator (natural-gas-fueled) proved essential when superstorm Sandy struck the region and power was not restored for two weeks. DDB utilized the existing foundation and much of the framing from the original structure, and the resulting transformation is a home that is larger, more efficient and much more comfortable.
